About Us

Cassandra Glover always wanted to work with children. After studying and obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a focus on family advocacy, she looked around and realized that very few sources for after school activities and services for children and the community. Thinking that there must be other types of enthusiasts working with or wanting to take part in the transformation of young lives, she began looking for people who shared this interest and those who could provide resources for such a challenging venture.

Having spent her youth summers as a volunteer at a local Vocational Bible Camp, incorporating positive activities in the rearing of her own children, and volunteering in women shelters in Maryland, Cassandra began contacting family members and friends to find out if they had shared interests.

She joined forces with an old friend, Marybeth McCoy and began to formulate a plan to provide services to the community. The Mary L. Collins Community Center founders have drawn on lessons learned and best practices from organizations such as the YMCA, Boys and Girls Club of America, and the youth athletic association that Cassandra’s own children participated in year round.

While we are really just getting started, we have big plans.  Our goal is to eventually provide most if not all of the following services…. or to partner with those who do.

  • Basketball
  • Baseball
  • Soccer
  • Football
